BC Refederation Party

The BC Refederation Party is six years old and until recently was known as the Western Refederation Party of B.C. It ran a small number of candidates in the previous provincial election and has several hundred members distributed around the province. Its founding president is Dennis Shaw of Nanaimo and its communications manager (and a director) is Mel Garden of Royston.

The party's top priorities are to implement a Direct Democracy system in B.C. (which would include giving citizens the opportunity to veto what they consider to be bad decisions by government), draft a new first Constitution for B.C. which would be voted on in a referendum, and negotiate major revisions in British Columbia's Terms of Union with Canada, which it calls "refederation". In the interim it also would focus on delivering Good Government and implementing various policies to achieve a Sustainable Environment and a more prosperous and equitable Economy.

The new leader is a man with about 40 years of top-level experience in media, politics, business and government who is looking forward to providing British Columbia's voters with a more moderate, more effective and more creative and sensitive approach to policy in a direction that falls somewhere between the directions of the NDP and the BC Liberals.
